2026 Brain Awareness Week

The Bieniek lab celebrated the 2026 Brain Awareness Week with two student outreach events. For the first, brains and microscopes were brought to Hidden Forest Elementary School (NEISD) to talk about and show the brain and tissue slides to students (including breakout groups where the student drew and described what they saw under the microscope). The second event was a lab tour, brain cutting demonstration, and Nissl staining experiment with the Young Women’s Leadership Academy (SAISD). One of the highlights was career advice and Q&A session with members of the lab. Both events were a great way to get students excited and interested in the brain and science careers as well as highlighting the exceptional neuroscience research here in San Antonio!
